The Eisentrager • Howard Gallery, located on the first floor of Richards Hall, is overseen by the Department of Art and Art History.

The gallery serves as an extension of the studio and classroom, providing students and the public with the opportunity to interact with contemporary art and to discuss issues with artists who may be exhibiting in the gallery.

Regularly scheduled exhibitions include traditional thematic shows that complement the curriculum, as well as juried exhibitions, installations and site specific works that introduce students to new genres. The gallery maintains a commitment to exhibiting artists who reside in the state of Nebraska.

A major function of the department gallery is to exhibit the work of UNL faculty and students. Regular exhibitions include MFA thesis exhibitions, undergraduate capstone exhibitions, an undergraduate juried art competition, and a biennial faculty exhibition.

In appreciation for generous donations by James and Dorene Eisentrager and Dan and Barbara Howard, the department gallery was renamed Eisentrager•Howard Gallery in 2001.

Professor James Eisentrager
began his career at UNL in 1961 and is one of the department’s most esteemed artist/educators. His award-winning work has been recognized through extensive and varied exhibitions. He retired from UNL in 1996.

Professor Dan Howard is widely referred to as “Nebraska’s leading award-winning artist.” Howard was chairman of the Department of Art from 1974-1983. He retired in 1996. He has exhibited extensively with art work represented in more than 350 competitive and invitational exhibitions.

The Eisentrager•Howard Gallery is located on the first floor of Richards Hall, on UNL's city campus.

Public parking is available in the parking garage directly west of Memorial Stadium.
